🎓 Education & Early Career
Shri Misri earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from Delhi University, followed by an MBA from XLRI, Jamshedpur. Before joining the IFS in 1989, he worked in advertising.
🏛️ Diplomatic Career
- Served in key Indian missions including Brussels, Tunis, Islamabad, Washington D.C., Munich, Sierra Leone, Spain, Myanmar, and China.
- Held posts as Deputy High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and was Private Secretary to Prime Ministers Gujral, Singh, and Modi.
- As Ambassador to China (2019–2021), he navigated complex geopolitical tensions and played a pivotal role during the India-China standoff.
- Served as Deputy National Security Adviser before being appointed Foreign Secretary.

Shri Misri assumed office in July 2024 amid multifaceted global challenges involving China, Pakistan, Israel–Palestine, and U.S.–India strategic ties. In his capacity:
- Provided Parliament with updates on sensitive operations such as “Operation Sindoor” and managed narrative on Pakistan ceasefire scenarios.
- Led high-level diplomatic engagements, including visits to the U.S. (May 2025) to strengthen defence cooperation and to Russia (March 2025) to advance trade and energy dialogues.

Originally due to retire in November 2024, his tenure was extended by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet to July 2026, underlining the government’s confidence in his diplomatic stewardship.
