Dr. Neeraj Mittal began his administrative career after joining the IAS in 1992. Over the years, he has held various key positions, both at the helm of state-level departments and in central government deputations.

He served as Principal Secretary, Information Technology, in the Tamil Nadu government, and was the Chief Executive Officer of the Tamil Nadu Industrial Guidance and Export Promotion Bureau as well as the Tamil Nadu Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation.

🚀 Role as Telecom Secretary & DCC Chairperson

Dr. Mittal was appointed Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet in September 2023. As the administrative head, he leads all telecom policy, regulation, and industry oversight in India.

In his position as Secretary, he also serves ex-officio as Chairperson of the Digital Communications Commission, the regulatory authority that oversees licensing, spectrum management, and standards for India’s telecom networks.

Under his leadership, the Department has launched initiatives like the “Bharat 6G Vision,” including task forces on 6G technologies and strengthened collaboration with international bodies—laying the groundwork for India’s contribution to future global mobile communication standards.
