He was appointed as Chief Secretary of Odisha on 29 June 2024 and formally assumed charge on 1 July 2024, succeeding Pradeep Kumar Jena. His tenure was extended by one year beyond his retirement date, allowing him to serve until the end of 2025.

A native of Haryana, Ahuja earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, an MBA from Punjab University, and a Master’s in Public Administration (International Development) from Harvard University.
