📌 Appointment as Secretary, DPE

In April 2025, Shri Chalai was appointed Secretary of the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), Ministry of Finance. His appointment marked a historic milestone as he became the first person from the Mao Naga community, and among the first from the tribal communities of the Northeast, to serve as a secretary in the finance ministry.

As Secretary (DPE), he oversees the functioning and policy framework for Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), working to modernize their operations and align them with emerging economic challenges.

Shortly after taking office, Shri Chalai convened a strategic meeting with leaders of 16 major CPSEs to address global economic pressures and explore the integration of Industry 4.0 technologies.
