Shri Govind Mohan has had a distinguished career in the Indian Administrative Service, holding key assignments both in the Government of India and the Government of Sikkim. He served in various central ministries including the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Finance, and Cabinet Secretariat.

In the Ministry of Home Affairs, he earlier worked as Joint Secretary and later Additional Secretary, handling critical areas like internal security, border management, disaster response, and administration of Union Territories. He also held diplomatic responsibility as Minister (Economic) at the Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C.

As Secretary, Ministry of Culture, he was instrumental in several landmark initiatives including digital cultural mapping, museum reforms, and international cultural collaborations.

Appointed in August 2024, Shri Govind Mohan assumed the post of Union Home Secretary, one of the highest-ranking positions in the Government of India.
