🎓 Education

Shri Atul M. Kurhekar holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Nagpur and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar College of Law, Nagpur. In addition to his legal education, he is trained in open-source technologies and is recognized as a master trainer in areas such as Ubuntu and Court Information Systems.

Shri Kurhekar entered judicial service in October 1995 as a Civil Judge (Junior Division) and Judicial Magistrate First Class. He rose steadily through the ranks, serving in various judicial capacities including:

  • Senior Civil Judge
  • Deputy Registrar (Judicial) at the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court
  • Judge at the Small Causes Court, Mumbai

📌 Secretary General, Supreme Court of India

In May 2023, Shri Atul M. Kurhekar was appointed Secretary General of the Supreme Court of India. As Secretary General, he holds the highest administrative post in the Supreme Court’s Secretariat. His responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing court administration and registry operations
  • Managing coordination among various benches and judicial officers
  • Supervising court infrastructure, e-governance implementation, and digital case management systems
  • Acting as the principal liaison between the Supreme Court and external institutions such as the government, bar associations, and media
  • Supporting the Chief Justice of India and other judges in administrative and ceremonial functions
