Service: Indian Foreign Service (IFS), 1992 batch
Education: Master’s degree in Commerce; qualified Cost & Management Accountant; worked as junior manager at the Durgapur Steel Plant before joining the IFS
Current Position: Secretary (Consular, Passport, Visa & Overseas Indian Affairs), Ministry of External Affairs (since July 2024)


🌍 Diplomatic Career

Shri Chatterjee has served in both field and headquarters roles, gaining a strong reputation in consular administration:

  • Overseas postings include Almaty (Kazakhstan), Geneva, Seoul, and as Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan (2022–2024)
  • In the MEA headquarters, he has held significant roles such as Chief Passport Officer, Dean at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service, and key positions in consular and visa administration, including leadership in the Passport Seva Project

📌 Secretary (CPV & OIA)

Since July 2024, Shri Chatterjee has overseen all consular services and diaspora-related affairs, including:

  • Managing passport and visa issuance and administration
  • Ensuring protection and assistance for Indian nationals abroad
  • Leading policies and outreach for India’s diaspora under Overseas Indian Affairs
  • Coordinating high-level consultative meetings involving international consular matters
