Amitabh Jain is a 1989-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre. He assumed charge as the Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh on 30 November 2020, becoming the state’s highest-ranking civil servant.
Education & Background
Born on 21 June 1965 in Dalli Rajhara, Balod district of Chhattisgarh, Amitabh Jain was a state board topper in undivided Madhya Pradesh. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s degree (M.Tech) in Systems and Management from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi.
Career and Appointments
- Amitabh Jain began his administrative career as Assistant Collector in Jabalpur and went on to serve as District Collector in several districts including Raipur, Bilaspur, Chhatarpur, Hoshangabad, and Rajgarh.
- He has held key positions in the Government of Chhattisgarh, including Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) and Principal Secretary in various departments such as Public Relations, Forests, Water Resources, Commerce, and Home Affairs.
- During his central deputation, he served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and later as Minister (Economic) at the Indian High Commission in London from 2011 to 2013.
